The GCSU Department of Continuing & Professional Education and Department of Chemistry, Physics & Mathematics is excited to host the inaugural GCSU High School Math Competition February 27, 2027 on GCSU's main campus in Milledgeville, GA! Schedule of Events

10:30 am - 11:00 am: Check In | A&S Auditorium Lobby

11:00 am - 11:30 am: Competition Intro Session | A&S Auditorium

11:30 am - 11:45 am: Disperse to Individual Exam Classrooms | Atkinson Hall 107 and 108

11:45 am - 1:00 pm: Individual Exams | Atkinson Hall 107 and 108

1:00 pm - 2:15 pm: Lunch | On Your Own

2:15 pm - 3:15 pm: Team Puzzle Challenge | A&S First Floor Classrooms

3:15 pm - 3:30 pm: Reconvene in Auditorium | A&S Auditorium

3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Awards | A&S Auditorium

4:00 pm: End of Competition

 

Competition Price

$60 per team

$15 per individual participant

Competition Participation

Participation is limited to ages 13+ that have not yet received a high school diploma or GED.

Enrollment at the Junior Varsity (JV) level is limited to those who have not been enrolled in pre-calculus or a higher class.

Enrollment at the Varsity level is open to any level of math, but recommended for those in pre-calculus and above.

Competition Breakdown

This competition is comprised of a graded individual exam. 

Awards will be given to the top individual scorers of the individual exams for junior varsity and varsity. 

An award will be given to the top scoring team of four for junior varsity and varsity. This will be decided by the combined scores of the individual exams for the four participants. 

Team Puzzle Challenge

After lunch, students will participate in a Team Puzzle Challenge, where they work together to solve fun math problems. The Team Puzzle Challenge is a non-competitive event and will not impact the competition scores.

Scoring

Scoring for the individual exams will be on a points basis. The team score will be the combined total of all four team member scores.

Correct Answer: 3 points

Incorrect Answer: 0 points

Blank Answer: 1 point

No calculators or other tech devices are allowed in the exam rooms.

*A shuttle will be running from Irwin street to main campus 10:30am-2:30pm and 3:30pm-8:30pm.

Registration Process

  1. Complete the registration form. *registration is first-come, first-serve. Your registration is tentative until your receive an additional email confirming or denying your registration

  2. Wait for confirmation from GCSU Continuing & Professional Education by email. *if you do not receive an email within three business days from registration, please reach out to continuingeducation@gcsu.edu
  3. Pay your invoice by February 19, 2027. *See Payment Information below
  4. Have all participants complete the mandatory online waiver prior to arriving on campus.

     Waiver for ages 17 and under

     Waiver for ages 18 and up

5. Arrive on campus ready for a fun competition!

Payment is due by February 19, 2027.

  • Makes check payable to "Georgia College & State University" and add "GCSU High School Math Competition" in the memo.

  • Please include a copy of your invoice in the envelope with your check if possible.
  • If you believe your check will arrive past the due date, please email continuingeducation@gcsu.edu to let us know it is on the way.

  • Please have your invoice number available for ease of payment process.

Refunds

  • Requests for refunds must be made by February 19, 2027.
  • Any requests made after this date are not refundable.
  • This includes both partial and full refunds.
  • To request a refund, please email continuingeducation@gcsu.edu and state what school you are with and what you need a refund for. Refunds will be returned by whatever payment method was used to pay your invoice (credit card or check).
