ABOUT LEARNING IN RETIREMENT AT GCSU

Learning in Retirement (LIR) is a community organization run through the Georgia College & State University Department of Continuing & Professional Education.

The mission of LIR is to provide opportunities for lifelong enrichment for senior individuals through educational programs, social and cultural activities, and community involvment. The organization's goals are to value, enrich, and reflect the wisdom and experience of senior/retired individuals; to address the needs of senior individuals for independence, wellness, education, and community contribution and influence; and to facilitate members' continuing education to society through education and community service.

LIR MEMBERSHIP/LIBRARY CARD

For NEW Members:

Option 1: Visit Learning In Retirement - Library Card Application and request a card for mail or pickup.

Option 2: Visit the CPE Registration Office in Chappell Hall 100 or the CPE table at an LIR luncheon. (to use library resources, you will either have to visit the library circulation desk)

Option 3: Visit the Russell Library circulation desk on the second floor during regular business hours and request an LIR membership/library card. 

For RENEWING Members:

Option 1: Visit Learning In Retirement - Library Card Application and request you card be renewed.

Option 2: Visit the Russell Library circulation desk on the second floor during normal business hours and ask for them to renew your card.

 

 

GET INVOLVED

You can get involved in many ways with LIR! View the oportunities below for more information:

LEARN
Join us at monthly luncheons and for day trips. Luncheons are the third Friday of most months at Freedom Church in Milledgeville. Lunch begins at 11:15a.m. and guests speakers present at noon.

SOCIALIZE
Join our group on Facebook to stay in the loop on upcoming events.

VOLUNTEER
Middle Georgia has many opportunities to volunteer your time, knowledge, and talents. Check out nonprofits in the area, or join another LIR member at their volunteer event!

LEAD
LIR is run by a volunteer board as well as membership committees. Reach out to a board member to see how you can join leadership, or become a member representative!

LIR GROUPS
Interested in reading or writing? Join LIR Book club and/or Writers' Group.

GIVE BACK
You can donate to Learning in Retirement through the univerity's foundation site

 

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SENIORS

While LIR is a great chance for your to interact and learn, you have a few other options to continue your education.

AMENDMENT 23

If you are a legal resident of Georgia who is 62 or older and are interested in taking undergraduate-level courses, Georgia College offers the Amendment 23 program that allows you to enroll in classes (depending upon available space) tuition free (excluding textbooks and lab fees). If you have any questions about this program please email or call the Office of Admissions at admissions@gcsu.edu or (478) 445-1283.

CONTINUING & PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION

CPE at GCSU offers many online and in person opportunities. From online certificates, personal enrichment courses, and more, you can continue your education with us.
